This beautifully constructed bronze and wooden stand with paper globe contains a faithful reproduction of the dry compass from the 17th century. Twelve paper gussets attached to the globe are printed according to templates by Gerardus Mercator, the inventor of the Mercator projection, which was used from the 16th to the mid-20th century.
