After the successful project with Parsons The New School for Design in 2007, Nachtmann expanded its relationships with world-renowned design schools and in 2010 initiated a new competition with the Pratt Institute in New York. The design Quartz by design student Catherine Merrick won an award in this competition. Quartz sand is one of the main raw materials in the production of crystal glass. The sparkling surfaces of the raw material in its crystalline structure were the inspiration for Catherine Merrick.
